Director, Elder Abuse Prevention Program

Sheryl Hayashida, Esq.


As director of WISE & Healthy Aging's Elder Abuse Prevention Program, Ms. Hayashida oversees all aspects and functions of the program including development, implementation, consumer, public, and professional education, and monitoring of goals and contract requirements. She is also responsible for delivering educational and outreach programs to professionals, seniors, their family members and caregivers and other interested public participants. In addition, Ms. Hayashida serves as chair of the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging's Fiduciary Abuse Specialist Team (FAST).

Ms. Hayashida holds a JD degree from the Seattle University School of Law (formerly University of Puget Sound). She has served as Senior Assistant County Counsel to the Washington County (Oregon) Counsel’s Office, where she was responsible for labor and employment law matters as well as the monitoring of internal investigations regarding employment issues, supervisory training, EEOC mediation and litigating labor arbitration and employment cases. Working as a Clinic Staff Attorney at Bet Tzedek Legal Services in Los Angeles, Sheryl established and supervised the Conservatorship and Elder Abuse Clinic, a collaboration with the Los Angeles Super Court.

Ms. Hayashida is also involved with the Elder Abuse Task Force, a partnership with the Los Angeles Superior Court headed by Judge Aviva Bobb and crucial state agencies such as Bet Tzedek and is a member of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for the Daily Money Management Program at WISE & Healthy Aging. She also participates in the KEEP-SAFE Coalition, a non-profit organization addressing financial elder abuse, along with other volunteers from social service organizations, law enforcement agencies and financial institutions.
