Long-Term Care Advocacy Organizations

The following organizations offer information and other resources for the residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities and their families and care givers.

Bet Tzedek Legal Services and its Nursing Home Advocacy Project work to improve the quality of care for elderly in nursing homes and provides legal protection against abuse and neglect through legal advice, education, advocacy and litigation. They have a series of easy-to-use guides such as How to Get Care from a Residential Care Facility, Nursing Home Companion and Assisted Living Companion. These guides can be downloaded from the Nursing Home Advocacy Project website.

California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform. Since 1983, the California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform has been an advocate for the rights of long-term care residents in California. They help make consumer information readily available, aid residents and their families find legal services, fight elder abuse and support legislation designed to address quality of care and access to long-term care. Their website is in both English and Spanish. Some resources on the site are also available in Chinese.
