AARP Driver Safety Classes
Every age has its own factors that can affect an individual's ability to drive. While teens may be inexperienced and overconfident, age takes its toll on our eyesight, hearing and reaction time. One of the greatest challenges that an older driver faces is keeping tabs on his or her driving skills. The AARP Driver Safety Program at WISE & Healthy Aging is designed to raise drivers' awareness of the effects of age as well as refreshing driving skills. This course is offered by AARP and the WISE & Healthy Aging Transportation and Mobility Program in a first floor conference room of the Ken Edwards Center, 1527 4th St., Santa Monica, CA 90401. The course is taught in two formats: a four hour refresher session for individuals who took the course within the past four years and an eight hour session offered in two four-hour sessions for those taking the course for the first time. An attendance certificate is issued at the end of the second sessions. The course covers:- Age-related physical changes that can affect driving skills
- Declining perceptual skills
- A review of the rules of the road
- Local driving problems
- License renewal requirements
