Counseling Services for Elder Abuse Survivors
WISE & Healthy Aging’s Counseling Services for Elder Abuse Survivors marks a significant shift in how the professional community treats elder abuse victims. With this program, mental health services treatment is available as a standard of care within a multidisciplinary response to elder abuse to provide psychotherapeutic interventions.Professional therapists provide short-term psychological treatment utilizing a problem-solving treatment model. Through therapy, clients learn to:
• minimize the trauma,
• experience symptom reduction, and
• develop tools to prevent future victimization.
Specially-trained therapists conduct initial assessments, administer cognitive measures along with anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress

Field-Capable Clinical Services Program for Older Adults (FCCS):
The FCCS program is a specialty mental health service that provides individual and group psychotherapy, care management, and psychiatric medication management to adults ages 60 and older in field-based settings. The FCCS program focuses on providing services to older adults who may be reluctant to seek mental health services, such as individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, are isolated and/or homebound, or have a history of mental illness. Services are provided at sites most convenient for the clients, such as in their home or at shelters, community centers and other public areas.For more information, please call (310) 394-9871, ext. 222.
Peer Counseling
The Peer Counseling Program at WISE & Healthy Aging has become an international model for the delivery of counseling services to adults ages 55 and older dealing with a difficult period in their lives. Paraprofessional counselors are volunteers, ages 55 and older, who receive extensive training and ongoing weekly supervision with a licensed mental health professional. Peer counselors provide individual counseling at the 4th Street location in Santa Monica or at a client’s residence.Peer counselors also facilitate ongoing weekly support groups to provide older adults with social interaction and emotional support.
